It is believed to be one of the earliest works by Van Gogh and it has become an example of his unique artistry.

The statuette depicts a standing horse with its head slightly bowed and its tail facing outward. It’s made from white plaster that has been lightly tinted with greenish-brown paint, giving it the appearance of bronze or ivory. Van Gogh used intricate detailing to bring the distressed horse to life–from rippling muscles beneath its mane to its glassy eyes looking off into the distance.
