“Still Life with Lemons on a Plate” is an oil painting created by the Dutch Post-Impressionist painter, Vincent Van Gogh in 1888. The painting depicts a simple still life arrangement of lemons, cut and placed on a plate against a flat background. This artwork was one of many paintings Van Gogh created during his time at Arles in southern France. It was completed during one of his most productive periods, resulting in some of the greatest works of his career.

This particular painting has become celebrated for its loose brushwork and bold use of color which gives it an expressionistic quality. It is speculated that the painting may have been inspired by the still lifes painted by Paul Cézanne which Van Gogh had seen earlier that year in Paris.
